True to Oprah Winfrey's form, this episode, titled Skinheads and Scented Candles, is all about purpose and intention. Journalist Jenn White interviews Oprah about both the early days of the show and its evolution. I can't say enough good things about this podcast - if you haven't listened yet, check it out by clicking here. Here are the life, business and entrepreneurship lessons I took from this episode:
Lesson #1: Evolution is OK.
Lesson #2: Use Your Brand Wisely, But Don't Get Used By Haters.
Lesson #3: Be Aware of, but Ignore, the Competition.
Lesson #4: Fulfilling Your Purpose Ain't Always Pretty.
Lesson #5: Own Your Location, Even if You're Not in Prime Real Estate (yet). Development is Coming.
Lesson #6: Fulfilling Your Purpose May Look Crazy from the Outside.
Lesson #7: Intention is Everything.
Lesson #8: Watch Your Words.
Lesson #9: Let Your Setback Set You Up for a Comeup.
Lesson #10: You May Not Know Your Purpose, but it Knows You.
I've included my tweets about these lessons below. You can also find them on Storify by clicking here.
I've got two favorite lessons here: Lesson #6: Fulfilling Your Purpose May Look Crazy from the Outside AND Lesson #10: You May Not Know Your Purpose, but it Knows You. It has become a popular cliché to talk about finding, developing, and pursuing your purpose. I don't know that any book or expert has the answers, but I do believe we all have one.
