#PopCultureClass: Insecure on HBO: Season 1, Episode 1 (Insecure as F**k)

My 2016 Christmas break has been one of the best I've ever had. I'll spare you the many reasons why, but for the one that led to this new blog series: I did myself the huge favor of binge watching Issa Rae's new-to-me show on HBO, Insecure. Though I have been a fan of her earlier work for a minute (including Awkward Black Girl, which she created on YouTube), life, liberty and the pursuit of financial freedom don't give me the opportunity to watch much of anything these days. The first episode of Insecure aired back in October but I hadn't seen any of the show or read much about it to avoid spoilers.

A few days before Christmas, though, I found myself with one day that did not include meetings, ivory tower stuff, conference calls, or family things. I bought a bottle of wine, ate bad (Snickers for breakfast, anyone?), and watched the full first season of Insecure in my PJs. I also decided to #latelivetweet my experience, which turned out to be a ton of fun because Insecure offers some really great lessons for life and business. The show also gave me the great idea to tweet about the pop culture lessons I see in my day-to-day life, and this blog post is the first in my new series. I'll be using the hashtag #PopCultureClass each time.

I've included my tweets for the #PopCultureClass from Season 1, Episode 1 of Insecure (aptly titled Insecure as F**k) below. You can also check them out on Storify. Be sure to check back for the rest of the season.

If you're interested, you can watch this episode for free (and legally) on Youtube. I can't wait to share the rest of my thoughts in the coming days!
